Think Before you ink

If your thinking about getting a new tattoo, here's some things to consider before the ink hits your skin.

* Start small- If your new to inking there is no shame in starting small. This gives you a chance to understand the process, to know how your skin takes ink and how your body heals. However if you have wanted that large piece for a while and are sure you want it dont be afraid to dive right in. Typically your artist will work with you if you need to break it down into sessions.

* Don't go cheap- Normally if something sounds to good to be true, it probably is. Your altering your body for life. If that's not worth a decent investment, I don't know what is.

* Do your research- Know what your wanting before you head to a shop and when looking online for ideas leave the word Tattoo out of your search. (Otherwise you will be looking at other peoples tattoos and nobody wants to be a copy cat. You should want your own custom piece) Once you've figured out what you want, you can start your research on your artist.  Look into who your trusting your body to. Look over the artist's portfolio, make sure your happy with their work and that the artists' style fits your style.

* Sleep on it- Give yourself some time to be sure you're happy with your choices (design, placement, artist, ect.) Spontaneity is all well and good but marking your body is a big decision that you have to live with for the rest of your life.

* Commit- Once you've slept on it, commit to it. Confirm your appointment, mark your calendar and don't back out. Tons of people talk about getting a tattoo for years and never do. If you want it, you have to make it happen.
